My Favorite Puzzles for Child Development
Babies and toddlers don’t need hundreds of toys to nurture their development - time, attention, and love matter the most in those early years. Being thoughtful about what toys you pick for your little ones will help with simple and purposeful development.
Puzzles have so many incredible qualities for children’s development. They support motor, language, and social development. They foster problem-solving skills, which are key for emotional regulation, prefrontal cortex development (the part of their brains responsible for reasoning, logic, and impulse control), and resilience. Here are some of my favorite puzzles for babies + toddlers — we have used all of them for the boys in my house.
One of the most fun things about puzzles is that, in addition to helping kids work on independent play, they are also really fun to do together. As our boys get older, we’ve had so much fun working on bigger and more complex puzzles together. We love doing puzzles together as a family, and it’s neat to think of doing more in years to come.
